How to Find Your Router's IP Address

Updated June 3, 2026

Your router's IP address — also called the default gateway — is the address you type into a browser to open your router's settings page. You'll need it to change your Wi-Fi password, set up port forwarding, or troubleshoot your connection. Here's how to find it on any device.

It's worth clearing up one thing first: your router's IP is a private address on your local network (usually something like 192.168.0.1). It's different from the public IP shown on our home page — see public vs private IP if that distinction is new to you.

Windows

  1. Press Win + R, type cmd, and press Enter.
  2. In the command prompt, type ipconfig and press Enter.
  3. Look for Default Gateway under your active connection — that's your router's IP.

macOS

  1. Open System Settings → Network.
  2. Select your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) → Details.
  3. Open the TCP/IP tab — your router's address is listed next to Router.

iPhone / iPad

  1. Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the (i) icon next to your connected network.
  3. The address next to Router is your gateway.

Android

  1. Open Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap your connected network (and Advanced, if shown).
  3. Look for Gateway or Router under the IP settings.

Common default router addresses

If you can't check a device, try typing one of these into your browser:

  • 192.168.0.1
  • 192.168.1.1
  • 10.0.0.1
  • 192.168.1.254

Logging in

Once you open the router's address in a browser, you'll be asked for a username and password. If you never changed them, check the sticker on the router or its manual — common defaults are admin / admin or admin / password. Change these to something strong once you're in; default credentials are a real security risk.

Key takeaways

  • Your router's IP (default gateway) is a private address, typically 192.168.x.x.
  • Find it via ipconfig (Windows) or your network settings (macOS, iOS, Android).
  • Always replace default router login credentials with a strong password.
